What is an Outlaw Derby?

The Pinewood Derby has been a mainstay of Cub Scouting for 70 years. Each year, kids learn about craftsmanship and good sportsmanship through competition. And while the goal is to have scouts build their cars themselves, we know there are guiding hands and tools behind them. The Outlaw Derby is an opportunity for those parents and guardians, who have experienced the joy of seeing their kids compete, have an opportunity to build and race their own. There is also the added benefit of less strict rules when it comes to car designs (see official rules below). Above all, it's a wonderful way to support local scouting, relive your childhood for scout alums, and earn bragging rights in your town.

Race Rules & Regulations

Addendum: Electronic propulsion is any direct drive mechanism that engages the car wheels or axels.  Cars may contain other electronic parts such as leds, switches, air blowers, etc. as long as the wheels and axels are free from contact of those electric components.  e.g., no RC car engines with connected drive trains.
